Thalia Doukas

I am a 2D and 3D fine artist, curator and workshop presenter. I use a variety of techniques and materials in my work; my workshops are based on my evolving projects and my inventory of new and/or upcycled finds. Ongoing commitments in DC, Maryland, and Virginia include installations and workshops for Artomatic and artwork for Busboys and Poets. Past projects have included holiday and valentine card-making workshops for the Smithsonian and Crafty Clubhouse activities for Washington, DC City Paper's annual Arts and Crafts Fair. In Maryland, I participate in annual Regional Fabric Arts exhibitions at Montpelier Mansion. 

In the past, I have lived and worked in London and New York. For ten years, I was an independent fine arts curator and grant writer for Windows on White installations sponsored by the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, partnering with Robyn Stein, Janet Ziff, and Alexandra Zevin. I also spent two years as artistic director of City Without Walls Gallery in Newark NJ.

After moving to DC, I launched a Reuse Art Studio in Arlington, VA, where for twelve years I led projects and events featuring materials donated by the community. I travelled workshops from the Studio to Beacon House Community Center, DC and to DC-area summer camps sponsored by Little Friends for Peace (LFFP).

I am a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and Chelsea School of Art/London Polytechnic (UK).
